MTN & MAFAB will commence deployment of 5G in Nigeria

A lot of people want to know when 5G will be available in Nigeria. Well, they won’t have to wait for long as the companies who won the licence for the 5G spectrum in Nigeria, Mafab Communications and MTN will look to accelerate the deployment of 5G in Nigeria, as they’ve received the final letters of award of the 5G spectrum licences by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).

MTN & MAFAB are to commence the deployment of 5G in Nigeria from August 24, 2022.

MTN & MAFAB Communications were awarded the auction of the Fifth Generation (5G) Spectrum Licences of the 3.5GHz spectrum auction conducted by the Nigerian Communications Commission on Monday, December 13, 2021.

The Executive Vice Chairman (EVC), Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta, of the NCC, confirmed the winners of the auction to the Board of Commissioners at the NCC’s Board’s Special Meeting, which took place on April 20 and 21, 2022 as the board gathered together to receive an update from management on the status of the 5G spectrum auction.

The Nigerian Communications Commission confirmed in a press statement on the 3rd of May 2022, that the issuance of the final letters of award of the 5G spectrum had happened in line with the 5G auction’s Information Memorandum (IM).

The winners of the two licensees, MTN & MOFAB are now expected to accelerate the deployment of 5G in Nigeria. It is expected that the 5G Network will usher Nigeria into a more robust Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) and a more digitised Nigerian economy in the future.

The Deployment of 5G in Nigeria

So with the deployment of 5G in Nigeria commencing on August 24, 2022, Nigerians can start to prepare for a new wave of internet services as the 5G technology will bring more benefits and opportunities as we continue to expand our digital lives as we seek accelerated growth and better smart living in the country.

The rollout of 5G in Nigeria is expected to bring about massive network improvements, like higher connection speed, mobility and capacity, as well as low-latency capabilities.
